Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has pledged to meet with residents to discuss the environmental impacts of the Greenidge Generation’s crypto mining operations on Seneca Lake. Greenidge Generation, a natural gas power plant in Dresden, Yates County, has recently repurposed part of its operations to support energy-intensive cryptocurrency mining. Joseph Campbell, president of Seneca Lake Guardian, welcomed the senator’s involvement. “We are grateful that Senator Gillibrand is taking our concerns seriously,” Campbell said. “The crypto mining operations at Greenidge are a major threat to our environment, and we need immediate action to protect Seneca Lake.”
The debate over Greenidge’s operations has intensified as environmentalists call for stricter regulations on crypto mining.
