Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Rounds Up the Week with Multiple Arrests

In an active week for law enforcement, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office has reported a series of arrests that underscore the ongoing efforts to ensure safety and uphold law and order throughout the county.

From routine traffic stops to responses to community reports, the Sheriff’s deputies have been diligently addressing various offenses, primarily focusing on traffic violations and drug-related crimes.

The week I started with a traffic stop on Interstate 390, a key route running through Livingston County. On Tuesday, July 4, Sheriff’s deputies pulled over Derrick J. Hall, a 22-year-old Rochester resident, for what initially appeared to be a routine check.

However, further investigation revealed that Hall was driving with a suspended license. Subsequently, he was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor that signals serious breaches in vehicular legal compliance. Hall was released on an appearance ticket, scheduled to address his charges later in local court.

Impaired Driving Incident on East Avon Road

The following day, on July 5, another incident unfolded on East Avon Road in the town of Avon. Sarah A. Mott, a 34-year-old from Caledonia, was behind the wheel when deputies initiated a stop for erratic driving behavior suggestive of impairment.

Tests conducted during the traffic stop led to Mott’s arrest for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. This arrest points to the growing concern of drug use while operating vehicles, an issue the sheriff’s department is keenly aware of. Mott, like Hall, was released on an appearance ticket, reflecting the procedure for handling such misdemeanor charges outside of immediate judicial custody.

Continuing the week’s trend, on July 6, deputies in West Sparta engaged in proactive patrols, a strategy that involves monitoring areas known for frequent legal infractions. During their patrol, deputies encountered Kyle J. Mark, a 27-year-old from Dansville.

An interaction with Mark led to the discovery of a controlled substance, allegedly in his possession, without a valid prescription. Mark was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a charge that highlights the ongoing issues of drug possession within the county. He was issued an appearance ticket and is expected to face the charges in a local court session.

Drug Paraphernalia Discovery in Geneseo

On July 7, the incidents continued when deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle in the Village of Geneseo. Upon arriving at the scene, they encountered Jessica L. Smith, 29, of Geneseo, inside the vehicle.

A search resulted in the discovery of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of controlled substances, leading to Smith’s arrest on similar charges faced by Mark the previous day. Smith’s case reiterates the challenges law enforcement faces with drug-related offenses in the region, stressing the importance of community vigilance and reporting.

These incidents collectively illustrate the diverse challenges the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office faces. Each case, while unique in its specifics, represents a broader commitment to maintaining public safety and enforcing New York State laws.

The sheriff’s office takes these duties seriously, working tirelessly to monitor, intercept, and address activities that threaten the peace and safety of its communities.

Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty, commenting on the week’s activities, expressed pride in his team’s responsiveness and diligence. “Our deputies are on the front lines, ensuring that our roads and neighborhoods remain safe.

Whether it’s addressing suspended licenses or responding to reports of suspicious activities, each action taken is aimed at upholding the law and protecting our citizens,” Sheriff Dougherty stated.

Public Cooperation and Future Outlook

The Sheriff’s Office also emphasized the crucial role of community cooperation in combating crime and ensuring safety. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The community’s proactive stance is often vital in aiding law enforcement efforts.

For the future, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office will continue to invest in training and resources that enhance its capabilities to handle various situations. With ongoing community support and effective law enforcement strategies, the office aims to reduce crime rates and foster a safe environment for all residents.

While the past week has seen a flurry of legal infractions, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office’s efforts highlight a steadfast dedication to justice and safety. Through continuous vigilance and community engagement, the Sheriff’s Department reaffirms its commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Livingston County.

As the community moves forward, the hope is that these efforts will contribute to a declining trend in local crime and lead to a safer, more secure environment for everyone in Livingston County.
