A SUNY Geneseo hockey player is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering a fractured skull from a fall off a skateboard. The incident occurred late at night on July 3rd, near the campus, leaving the community deeply concerned.

The player, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found injured by Geneseo police, who responded to the emergency call. According to Chief Eric Osganian, the player had fallen while riding a skateboard, leading to a severe head injury. He was promptly taken to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with a skull fracture and admitted to the ICU for intensive medical care.

Chief Osganian explained that the police investigation included reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses, which confirmed that the fall from the skateboard caused the injury. “Our primary concern is the well-being of the injured player,” said Osganian. We are relieved to have determined the cause and are focusing on his recovery.”

The news has sent shockwaves through the SUNY Geneseo community, particularly within the athletics department. Chris Schultz, the hockey team’s coach, expressed his concern and support for the player and his family. “This is a difficult time for all of us,” Schultz said. “We are doing everything possible to support our player and his family. Safety is always a top priority, and this incident underscores the need for caution and protective gear.”

The injured player is reportedly in stable condition, but it remains unclear when he can return to the ice. His teammates and the broader community have been sending messages of support and hope for a speedy recovery.

In light of this accident, Chief Osganian reminded the public of the importance of safety measures when skateboarding or engaging in similar activities. “Wearing helmets and other protective gear can prevent serious injuries,” he advised. “We urge everyone to take these precautions seriously to avoid accidents like this.”

The incident has highlighted the risks associated with skateboarding and the critical need for safety awareness. The SUNY Geneseo community is united in its support for the injured player and hopes for his quick and full recovery.
