With its stunning coastline, vibrant marine life, and year-round sunshine, it’s no wonder that water sports are one of the biggest draws to this incredible location. Whether you’re a seasoned thrill-seeker or just dipping your toes into aquatic adventures, Exmouth offers something for everyone. Here are ten water sports in Exmouth you’ve got to try this summer:

Snorkelling at Turquoise Bay

Consistently ranked as one of Australia’s top beaches, Turquoise Bay offers some of the best snorkelling in the country.

Just metres from shore, you’ll find yourself swimming with colourful coral, tropical fish, and maybe even a turtle or two. The gentle current makes it perfect for beginners, but the marine biodiversity will impress even experienced snorkellers.

Scuba Diving the Ningaloo Reef

For those keen to explore deeper, scuba diving at Ningaloo Reef is an absolute must. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed site is home to whale sharks, manta rays, reef sharks, and over 500 species of fish. Popular dive spots include Navy Pier, known for its incredible underwater life, and Lighthouse Bay.

Kayaking in Yardie Creek

Paddle your way through the red cliffs and tranquil waters of Yardie Creek Gorge. This is a peaceful yet scenic way to explore the rugged beauty of Cape Range National Park. Look out for black-footed rock wallabies hopping around the gorge’s edges.

Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

Perfect for all fitness levels, SUP is a relaxing way to glide across Exmouth’s calm waters. Try it at Town Beach or Bundegi Beach during sunrise for a peaceful and memorable start to your day.

Kitesurfing at Sandy Bay

If you’re after an adrenaline rush, head to Sandy Bay where the consistent wind and shallow waters create the ideal conditions for kitesurfing. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, the vast open space gives you plenty of room to fly.

Windsurfing near Bundegi Beach

Windsurfing combines elements of surfing and sailing, making it both exhilarating and challenging. The waters off Bundegi Beach offer ideal conditions, especially in the afternoon when the sea breeze kicks in.

Jet Skiing Adventures

For high-speed thrills, hop on a jet ski and explore the Exmouth Gulf or the Ningaloo coastline. There are guided tours available for those who want to combine sightseeing with the excitement of skimming across the water.

Deep-Sea Fishing Charters

Exmouth is renowned for its world-class fishing. Book a charter and try your luck reeling in species like Spanish mackerel, marlin, or tuna. Whether you’re a novice or an expert, the local guides know all the best spots.

Surfing at Dunes Beach

Dunes Beach (also known as Surfers Beach) is one of the few places in the region where you can catch a decent wave. Best in winter but still fun in summer, this is a great spot for intermediate surfers looking for a bit of action.

Swimming with Whale Sharks

From March to August, Exmouth is one of the few places in the world where you can swim alongside the gentle giants of the sea, whale sharks. These massive, yet docile creatures often cruise close to the surface, giving swimmers an unforgettable experience.

Plan Your Summer Water Adventure in Exmouth

No matter your skill level or interests, Exmouth has a water sport that’s sure to make your summer unforgettable. With warm waters, stunning scenery, and a laid-back vibe, it’s the perfect place to get active, explore, and connect with the ocean.

Make sure to pack your swimmers, slap on some reef-safe sunscreen, and get ready to make a splash in one of Australia’s top aquatic destinations.
