Central Texas Flood Recovery: How You Can Help

Following the devastating flash floods that swept through Central Texas on July 4th, relief efforts are mobilizing to assist the affected communities. Tragically, over 120 lives have been lost, and countless others remain missing, particularly around the Guadalupe River, which experienced a staggering rise of 26 feet in just 45 minutes. Areas including Kerrville and Hunt were severely impacted, with a range of organizations stepping up to facilitate support and recovery.

Ways to Contribute

Numerous organizations are accepting donations to aid in recovery efforts for flood victims. Here’s a comprehensive list of how you can lend your support:

  • Kerr County Flood Relief Fund: Donations go to verified nonprofits assisting with rescue and recovery efforts across impactful areas such as Hunt, Ingram, and Kerrville.
  • Southern Oaks Church: Located in Kerrville, this church is accepting donations both in person and online.
  • TEXSAR: This Austin-based nonprofit is active on the ground, employing swiftwater rescue teams and is aiming to raise $100,000 for ongoing operations.
  • Texans on Mission: A North Texas group accepting financial donations while providing assistance in Central Texas.

Other Organizations Supporting Relief Efforts

Many additional organizations are also contributing to bring aid to those affected. Here are some ways to support their missions:

  • Salvation Army Kerrville: Online donations are being collected to help those impacted by the floods.
  • American Red Cross: This organization accepts donations online aimed at flood response and assistance.
  • Walmart and Sam’s Club: Together, they will donate up to $500,000 in relief support, matching customer donations.
  • A Airbnb.org: Offering emergency housing for flood victims, contributions can be made online for housing assistance.

Support for the Community

The commitment to recovering from these floods is being bolstered by local businesses and nonprofits. Notably:

  • Kerrville Pets Alive: This organization focuses on reuniting families with their pets, accepting both monetary and supply donations.
  • DoorDash: Committing to donate $1 for every order made from Texas businesses, up to $250,000, towards recovery efforts.
  • Team Rubicon: A veteran-led group providing disaster relief, they are currently active in Central Texas.
