Police Officer Wounded in Shooting Incident Outside Immigration Facility
An officer from the Alvarado Police Department sustained injuries after being shot in the neck when multiple suspects opened fire near an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility late on July 4th, 2025, according to law enforcement officials.
Incident Overview
The incident occurred shortly before 11 PM, when police received reports about suspicious activity occurring in the 1200 block of Sunflower Lane, adjacent to the Prairieland Detention Facility. Upon their arrival, officers spotted an individual allegedly carrying a firearm.
As one officer attempted to make contact with the suspect, a barrage of gunfire erupted from an undetermined number of suspects, resulting in a bullet striking the officer in the neck. Emergency services transported the injured officer to a hospital in Fort Worth for treatment, and he has since been released, according to updates from the Alvarado Police.
Arrests Made
Following the incident, law enforcement apprehended multiple armed suspects who attempted to flee the scene. Currently, authorities have detained eight individuals; however, their identities have not yet been disclosed. Reports indicate that some of the apprehended suspects were wearing tactical body armor.
Sources also revealed that over a dozen masked individuals, dressed in black, had targeted the Prairieland ICE facility prior to the shooting. These individuals allegedly vandalized vehicles and security equipment and set off fireworks, seemingly to draw the attention of law enforcement.
Government Response
The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Saturday that it is closely monitoring the recent attacks on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) facilities. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche issued a statement emphasizing that the department holds a strict policy against assaults on federal personnel and property, promising to apply the full extent of the law against those involved.
This incident in Texas follows a separate but related outbreak of violence in mid-June, during which three individuals were arrested near an ICE facility in Portland, Oregon, after engaging in clashes with law enforcement.
